Europe Day 2: Zagreb
Cousins and Impressions
A big reason to stop in Zagreb was to meet up with my cousins, and if only for a day, get to know them as adults and find out a bit about their daily lives. It is one of the first times we sat and talked, just the three of us, without parents around, to share in the trials and tribulations of being balkan born. Amazing what you can cover in a long early afternoon - from family history to f1 championship, travel plans to tatoos, blockchain to the meaning of life.
Zagreb on a summer Sunday is quite charming. The train station opens up into a park and leads into the centre and then the old upper town, all easily navigated on foot with many shops (ok mostly closed on a Sunday), restaurants (quite open in the evening) and museums (including one dedicated to hangovers). The city trams continuously roll on, as if to aid meditating. The city seems is both full of space and things. It has quite an uncanny gradient of history and buildings on its streets that ease you in and out of different time.
